It's actually not important what specific site got affected. Any of them could have gotten compromised at any time. The important thing is be wary that it can and has happened at your trackers.

P.S. If your tracker has 2-step verification, use it. Do it for TPS as well. I have.

I do know some sites recently have been compromised and the attack was indeed via SQL injection (doesnt mean there arent other possible attacks). So only certain sites are vulnerable, namely tbdev that hasn't been sanitized properly. Generally speaking, stealing DB's is a practice that is conducted to attain email addresses they can then sell to marketing companies. In our case its all about TV, Movies, Apps or music. So in some cases the marketing or spam that gets sent may be related to the site the emails came from. This makes the email DB more lucrative.

Where are you getting this information from? Stolen information is sold to spammers, not marketing companies who will push anything from malware downloads, phishing emails to steal more valuable account information and drive traffic to things like fringe/illegal porn and of course online pharmacies.

thing is, the masses dont care where they get their torrents from. interrupt the other guys for long enuff, and eventually all them torrent junkies are gonna come knocking on your door.. not agreeing with it or anything.. just sayin.. its a tactic... and it does seem to, initially anyways, have positive results for the person(s) doing the deed..

this is the true test of your community i guess.. kinda like going to jail to find out who your real friends are..

For those that won't let you use +addresses, here is another trick specifically for gmail:
"Insert one or several dots (".") anywhere in your email address. Gmail doesn't recognize periods as characters in addresses -- we just ignore them. For example, you could tell people your address was hikingfan@gmail.com, hiking.fan@gmail.com or hi.kin.g.fan@gmail.com. (We understand that there has been some confusion about this in the past, but to settle it once and for all, you can indeed receive mail at all the variations with dots.)"

I feel like I've been left out. I haven't received any messages asking for money on any of the sites I'm a member of. /sadface

Don't worry isharci, I'm sure someone will try to scam you in the future, you just need to wait for the right person :)

Someone recently managed to hack my GG account, along with a few hundred/thousand users' accounts.
I contacted the staff, and they told me not only my account was affected, but others as well.
My password was not very safe though, since then I changed pswds on all trackers (and now using different for each)

Recently switched everything over to Keepass, integrated into Pale Moon with Keefox. Takes a minute to get used to, but now every tracker has a unique pwd, and I can back my pwd database up onto a thumb drive and take it anywhere.

Better late than never. I used to use a fairly simple password and only 2 or 3 different ones. I was lucky to get good advise a while back and got a good password manager. Since I've been using a strong unique password on each account. I highly recommend everyone do that or you put your account and the tracker at risk

I have always used 1Password, just not for my torrent accounts. :D I was lazy, and I generally like to know my passwords by heart, so I use 5-6 different ones for everything, and used only one of them for all my accounts. - BAD IDEA
GG staff told me another tracker might have had a password leak, that's how they managed to get a lot of passwords and usernames. Now I'm smarter at least a little bit. But it's still annoying that now I cannot log in to my account if I dont have my computer or my iPad with me.

Keepass also gives you the option to export a html with your pwds spelled out, so you could actually print it out and stick it in your wallet if you wanted to.
